Day 2 / Day 8

Day 2 and Day 8 Covid-19 Testing

The UK government has mandated that ALL International travellers from Amber List Countries MUST self-isolate for 10 days (click here for more details) from arriving in the UK (unless they are specifically exempt, (click here for more details). If you break the quarantine rules, you may face a penalty of up to £10,000.

All self-isolating international travellers arriving in the UK MUST also have COVID-19 PCR testing on or before day-2, and on or after day-8 of self-isolation period. The day of arrival in England will be treated as day zero. Tests will be taken in your own accommodation.

In the event of a positive COVID-19 PCR test result from the day-2 sample, special testing called genomic sequencing will also be carried out to identify COVID-19 variant (type of COVID-19). This test is crucial to prevent the spread of new variants within the UK. Genomic sequencing will NOT cost you extra.

If you get a positive result from your day-2 test, you must quarantine for 10 days beginning the day after the swab sample was taken (this means until day 13). Your household and those who are travelling with you will also need to quarantine until day 13. If you get a positive result from your day-2 test, you do not need to take a test on day-8.

Day-8 COVID-19 PCR testing is the final test before the end of self-isolation. If negative, then the quarantine period ends, and one can finish self-isolation. You will be able to leave quarantine when you have received both a negative result from your day 8 test and have quarantined for 10 full days.

If you get a positive test result from your day-8 test you will need to quarantine until day 19. Your household will also need to quarantine until day 19.

4 Medical Testing provide end-to-end COVID-19 testing in line with UK Government requirements. The UK Government requirement is that you MUST order and book your day-2 and day-8 tests before boarding your flights back to the UK (before arriving in the UK). Failure to do so may result in a fine and other penalties. You can order your day-2 and day-8 tests as early as is convenient for you, and we will make sure that your day-2 testing kit arrives to you on or before day-2, and day-8 test arrives on day-8 or after as required by the UK Government regulations. The test kits will have a clear instruction on how to handle, swab, repackage and return them to our laboratories for prompt analysis.

When ordering your test, you need to provide details about yourself and your journey. Once your order is completed, you then receive a unique reference number which you MUST enter in your Passenger Locator Form (see https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk for details) before boarding your flight to the UK.
4 Medical Testing offers a standard option for day-2 and day-8 COVID-19 PCR tests:
